location
Andrew
Square borders
between the two faces of
South Boston: its
residential neighborhood to
the east and its
industrial-transportation
corridor to the west. Today,
Andrew Square’s
industrial-transportation
side remains the dominant
image of the square, but
city of Boston is currently
in the process of
transforming this image from
industrial to a residential
neighborhood. Major
streetscape and traffic
improvements are underway
for Dorchester Avenue,
Andrew Square’s premier
thoroughfare, as well as
Glover’s Corner and Field’s
Corner. The goal of these
projects will be to create a
look and feel similar to the
Commonwealth Avenue in Back
Bay, bringing a classic New
England residential
character to the
neighborhood.
Tens of
millions of square feet of
planned, new construction
will hit South Boston along
Dorchester Avenue, Old
Colony Road, the waterfront
and seaport. The city has
proposed a large spending
plan to invest
into new development along
the seaport and surrounding
areas. Andrew Square with
its major potential for
growth and appreciation of
value is a great investment
opportunity for developers
and residents alike.
Washington Village
at 550 Dorchester is named
to commemorate the character
and history of Andrew Square
as well as celebrating its
future. |
